EDITORIAL TEAM 2018/19

The 2018/19 editorial team produced Volume 5 of the University of Liverpool Law Review

Jessica Speight

Jessica has just finished her degree in Law with a Year in China with First Class Honours. She spent her third year in Suzhou, China at the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University studying Chinese and China Studies modules, where she was president of the Law Society. Jessica’s hobbies include travelling, cooking and running. After graduating, she plans on taking the Bar Professional Training Couse combined with a Masters’ degree in law, with long term plans of becoming a barrister in either asylum and immigration law or family law.

Niamh Haughey

Niamh has just finished her LLB Law and Spanish course, graduating with First Class Honours. Her academic interests lie mainly in international law and critical/radical legal theory, having focused her final-year dissertation on the Rojava revolution. She is also very interested critical approaches to Spanish-English translation, and won the Modern Language Department’s Spanish Translation Award for 2018/19. After finishing her final exams, Niamh secured a graduate job in an exciting start-up and moved to London. She hopes to pursue a master’s and PhD in the future.

Haji Gasimov

Haji is Postgraduate taught, International Law and Legal studies student from Azerbaijan. His research interests are ranging from International Law, European Union Law, Public Law, Energy Law, Energy Security, International Investment Law, Sustainable Development. Upon completing his study at the University of Liverpool, Haji undertakes to pursue his research study and work at international, public organization and in corporate field. Alongside his studies he enjoys playing piano, reading artistic and geopolitical literature, explore foreign countries and inclusive cultures.  

Berfin Kavak

Berfin is second year law student at the University of Liverpool. After she graduate, she wants to take the Legal Practitioners Course and aspires to become a solicitor. As well as being an editor of the Law Review, Berfin is an active member of the Law society. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling and swimming. 

Ashley Mimnaugh

Ashley is a final year LLB Law for Graduates student from Canada. She has a degree in Law and Society from the University of Calgary. Ashley is particularly interested in Constitutional law and Tort law. Aside from her legal interests, she enjoys reading about physics, playing video games, and learning new languages. Upon graduating from Law school, she plans to head back to Canada to undertake an articling position with the Government.

Katherine Magee

Katherine is a penultimate year law student. Her main academic interests lie in international, public and corporate law, and she particularly enjoys engaging in research regarding contentious legal issues. Aside from her academic interests, Katherine enjoys losing herself in an engaging TV series or book, exploring new places and going to the gym. She also enjoys practising her Spanish and Portuguese language skills, and hopes to do more travelling in the future so that she can fully master the two languages!

Kevin Leong

Kevin is a final year law student, with particular interests in corporate, commercial and international investment law. Outside of Kevin's academics, his hobbies include playing the piano, basketball, reading and trying out new food recipes (often with disastrous results!). Given that Kevin shares a very sacred and intimate relationship with food, he plans to be successful enough to order food from any menu without thinking twice about its price. Upon graduating from law school, Kevin plans to head back to Singapore to train and qualify as an Advocate & Solicitor. 

Owen Kai-Combey

Owen is a mid-career researcher in Law, Public Policy and African Governance Systems. He holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the International University of Japan; a Master of Arts in Gender Studies, and Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Political Science from the University of Sierra Leone. He is currently a final year student at the University of Liverpool, studying for a Bachelor of Laws degree (Law for Graduates), and aspiring to pursue an inter-disciplinary postgraduate degree in Law.

Amelia Tyson

Amelia is a final year LLB Law with French student from the Lake District, with a particular interest in commercial law. She spent last year on the Erasmus scheme, studying French law at the Sorbonne in Paris, and hopes to pursue a career in an international law firm following this experience. After graduation Amelia will be undertaking a summer vacation scheme. Aside from her studies Amelia loves playing polo, travelling and discovering new coffee shops.

Ron Ko

Ron is currently a Singaporean 3rd year law student who is hoping to obtain a training contract in the UK in the near future. After he graduates, he will be taking up an offer to study a Masters in Law in University College London with a specific focus on International Law. As well as being an editor of the Law Review, Ron is the Vice- President of the Bar Society and the Legal Officer of the Legal Society. He also represented the University as an Orator for the 2018/19 Jessup team. Outside of studying, Ron enjoys playing Football and Tennis and does so by playing in the Campus Football League and Varsity League respectively.

Scott Cowley

Scott is a second -year law student from Liverpool hoping to pursue a career at the Commercial Bar in the future. As well as being an editor this year, Scott was the coordinator for the Bar Society’s second year mooting competition, and will be the Bar Society President for 2019/20. Outside of academia, Scott is a keen reader and an avid cook.

Rebecca Dracup

Rebecca is currently studying for her Masters in Law. She is particularly interested in Medical Law and Ethics and wishes to pursue a career in legal academia. Outside of academia, Rebecca loves baking, yoga and travelling.
